His Mom Built Their House, He Built His College Education Fund
David Texidor had big dreams for the future. At age six, he was a first-grader in the SEED program in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, and already knew he was saving his money for a college education.
David’s mother, Antonia Rodríguez, just wanted to see him achieve all of his goals and dreams. In the face of adversity, Antonia worked tirelessly to provide a home for her family over the years: “I built the two houses where my family has lived. The first house was made out of wood, but a hurricane four years ago damaged it so badly we had to tear it down and build another home with cement blocks. I had to work extra hours sewing flags to afford the materials for the new house.” Antonia signed David up for the SEED program so that he would have opportunities in the future to attend college, purchase a home, or start a small business of his own.
David had no doubts about what he would do with his SEED money, however. He exclaimed: “I want to become an engineer and build the most beautiful house in Puerto Rico for Mami!” By first grade, he had already saved $971 in his SEED account.
“When I’m big I want to build houses so I can build a house for my mother. These are her favorite colors. The savings will help me reach my goals.”
