CFED Partner Named Finalist for Direct Impact Award
A few weeks ago I received an email notifying me that our friends at D2D have been named a Direct Impact Award finalist for their game, Farm Blitz. This is fun news about a fun new game they've created to promote financial education, so I thought I'd share the news with our readers. Congrats to D2D!
Doorways to Dreams Fund (D2D) is proud to announce that Farm Blitz has been chosen as a finalist for the Direct Impact Award at the 8th Annual Games for Change Festival in New York. The Festival recognizes excellence in games that address current and pressing social issues and Farm Blitz has been chosen as a game targeted at a specific audience with proven outcomes along with three other impactful and innovative games. “D2D has taken on the challenge of engaging financially vulnerable adults with engaging games to improve financial capability, and it is an honor to be nominated and recognized along with so many leaders in the games for change field," says Nick Maynard, Director of Innovation at D2D.
With support from the RAND-Dartmouth-University of Pennsylvania Financial Literacy Center, the game was designed by Caitlin Feeley, Jason Haas, Dana Tenneson, and Michelle Moon Lee, all affiliated with the MIT Education Arcade. Farm Blitz was developed by FableVision.
"D2D truly understands how effective a well-designed educational game can be in affecting real behavioral and attitudinal change in its audience," says FableVision's President Gary Goldberger. "We are very proud of Farm Blitz, and the suite of financial games we have created with D2D-- the combination of fun game mechanics, solid financial content, and pop culture sensibility is a recipe for success."
In addition to this award nomination, D2D and our partners were chosen to speak at the 2011 Games+Learning+Society Conference in Madison, WI; the session symposium was entitled, “When ‘Resource Management’ Means ‘You Can Retire’: The Development of Financial Education Games.”
