Featured Innovator: Allison Kelly
By Sean Luechtefeld on 02/05/2010 @ 10:39 AM
Today we bring to you the second installment of our Innovators’ Takeaway feature. Today’s Featured Innovator is Allison Kelly. Allison is the director of Employee OnRamp Initiatives at Pacific Community Ventures in San Francisco. Her innovation, Employer-Funded Stored-Value Health Card, combines employee benefits with negotiating buyer power to create a stored-value card, making health care more affordable for low-wage workers. Her top takeaways from the Summit included:
1. The structure and organization of the Summit were great. A CFED employee, Lonnie Snyder, Director of IT, was assigned to help me host my Innovation Exchange and it was an incredible asset; he facilitated introductions to relevant people who could advance my work and championed the VidaCard to other attendees. He also asked tough questions directed to potential funders that I didn’t feel I could ask, completely unprompted by me, which I appreciated immensely.
2. I enjoyed the afternoon plenary session. Specifically, I found two of the three speakers to be superb and I found their discussions thought-provoking and informative.
3. I received great input and walked away with ten solid leads to follow-up on —qualified persons who either have ideas for distribution, ideas for funding or the potential for partnerships. These addressed the top three burning questions that were printed on my board.
She especially enjoyed the structure of the Summit, finding it constructive and useful. She was impressed and appreciative of the resources and energy that the team put into making the day such a success for her.
Special thanks to Allison for giving us her insider’s view of the ’09 Summit! Check back next week as we’ll feature two more exciting innovative ideas!
