Today we’re bringing to you the last feature from our esteemed Innovative Idea Champions. No worries, though – coming soon we’ll feature Top Takeaways from our Innovators-in-Residence and from our Innovative Idea Engineers who presented at the 2009 Innovation Summit.
Today’s entry features John Flory, who, along with his colleague Ramón León, presented his innovation, Cooperative Public Markets, an effort owned by small business people from the local community which intends to energize communities while creating economic vitality and jobs. John’s top takeaways from the Summit are:
1. It was important to have the opportunity to meet people from other organizations engaged in similar work in other communities. I was inspired by the collective work of others across the country since I have limited contact with other organizations.
2. The Summit gave me the opportunity to promote the Mercado Central, the Midtown Global Market and to gain awareness and recognition for work done in the upper Midwest. I occasionally think the work of my organization lacks visibility because it is distant from the East and West Coasts.
3. I gained significant awareness of CFED and its role in the asset building field. I wasn’t familiar with CFED’s role in the field prior to the Summit. Also, the Summit provided me with an opportunity to meet some of the players involved in providing support and resources in the field, which I found very helpful.
innovation@cfed owes a special thanks to John and to Ramón for presenting at the Summit and for sharing their input with us!
