As many of our blog readers know, this past Thursday was the deadline for submissions for Innovators-in-Residence and Innovative Ideas. Early in the week, we had about 50 idea submissions – a number we were quite satisfied with. As the deadline approached, the number of applications steadily increased. Then, on Thursday, BOOM! Our application numbers skyrocketed! By the submission deadline, we had received over 100 idea submissions!

We owe part of the success of this submission cycle to you – the most devoted members of our online community. By spreading the word about the application window, sharing this information with your colleagues and using the Refer-a-Friend feature, you helped us realize that word-of-mouth really is the most effective form of publicity.

We look forward to reading all of the applications and learning about your ideas. For those of you who submitted an idea, we’ll be contacting you in the coming weeks about the status of its review. Our goal is to announce a diverse new set of innovators by early June.

Of course, just because the deadline for Innovators-in-Residence and Innovative Ideas has passed doesn’t mean that all opportunities have come and gone. We’re accepting applications for International Ideas and Next Generation Innovators through May 15, and we’re accepting applications for Innovative Entrepreneurs through June 15. If you or a colleague have a creative approach to expanding economic opportunity and are interested in playing a key role at the 2010 Assets Learning Conference, be sure to apply early to ensure your idea is given maximum consideration.

Thanks again for making the first wave of our application cycle such a success – we look forward to identifying the next generation of innovative approaches to expanding economic opportunity for ALL Americans!
