This week marks the one-year anniversary of the day President Obama signed into law the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, legislation designed to expand national service across the country. One of my colleagues passed along to me, by way of the Corporation for National & Community Service, an interesting resource – the Stories of Service blog.

The Stories of Service blog, housed here, highlights those individuals showing a strong commitment to making America a better place through community and national service. Typically, the blog features a wide range of individuals – from nationally-recognized civil rights leaders like the late Dorothy Height to college students working to help veterans with disabilities, these highlights show the compelling nature of national service.

This week, to mark the April 21 anniversary of the Serve America Act, SERVE.gov is showcasing stories of everyday heroes who are “transforming lives and communities across the country.” According to their release, “these stories give a glimpse into how national service is tackling tough problems and strengthening our communities.”

Not only is this site an interesting resource, but may be a great way to recognize someone you know that highlights what it means to be a public servant. To share your story or that of a colleague or friend, click here. Happy reading!
