Rosebud Renewable Energy Conference
By Sean Luechtefeld on 05/20/2010 @ 05:51 PM
At the end of last month, Trees, Water & People hosted their first annual Rosebud Renewable Energy Conference at the Rosebud Hotel & Casino in South Dakota. The event was sponsored, among other organizations, by Lakota Solar Enterprises, the organization with which Innovative Idea Champion Henry Red Cloud is affiliated. The convening brought together close to 200 Native leaders from eight different tribes who sought to identify innovative ways to bring renewable energy to tribal communities.

The conference featured a series of exciting discussions that focused on bringing renewable energy to tribal communities. On the first day of the conference, Winona LaDuke of Honor the Earth spoke about her own tribe’s work to expand green energy and a sustainable local food economy in Native communities. On the second day, participants toured the Rosebud Reservation and a series of facilities developing or using sustainable energy solutions. Finally, the conference concluded on day three with discussions about how we will be using renewable energy tomorrow. According to Trees, Water & People, the first annual conference was a huge success and participants are already looking forward to next year’s installment!
