Brandee McHale is welcoming Sterling Speirn, CEO and President of the W. K. Kellogg Foundation, to the stage. He will close out the plenary session. Fun fact: He’s a 7th and 8th grade English teacher!

Great Plenary!

Posted on 09/23/2010 @ 09:14 AM

This is such a well-planned plenary. We’ve heard not only from highly-regarded speakers in the field (Father Larry & José), but also from some voices in the field who have experienced first-hand the importance of saving. Engaging, too – everyone brings something unique to the table.

How Awesome is our Field?

Posted on 09/23/2010 @ 09:11 AM

It’s incredible to think that there are people opening IDAs and committing to saving when they’re 15 or 16. Then I’m reminded that K2C will allow children as young as 4 to do the same. How awesome is our field?

Young People Saving

These youth are insanely eloquent. They make good points, too. Setting goals helps control spending, which helps establish a more secure financial footing. They’ve learned budgeting and so much more through their IDA programs.

Patience is a Virtue

Brandee McHale, COO of Citi Foundation, is moderating an “informal conversation” (in front of 1,000 people) with young people from Jim Casey Youth Opportunities Initiative. Brandon and Sixto are young entrepreneurs who, with the help of JCYOI, successfully transition out of foster care and into a lifetime of saving.
