Local Policy to Preserve and Promote Manufactured Housing Webinar

Thursday, September 2 from 3-4:30pm EST

On Thursday, September 2, speakers on the Local Policy to Preserve and Promote Manufactured Housing webinar
discussed ways to use local policy to preserve and promote manufactured housing as an affordable housing option in your community. During this webinar, panelists provided an overview of local policies and how they relate to manufactured housing, including zoning, moratoriums and other local ordinances. The policy content of this webinar drew from the resource guide, Advocating at the Local Level, available on the Manufactured Housing Advocacy Center Toolkit page.

The presentations highlighted key local policies that impact the availability and opportunities of manufactured housing as a viable, affordable housing choice, including zoning, moratoriums and other local ordinances. The panel included Carolyn Carter from the National Consumer Law Center, Ritchie Eppink of Idaho Legal Aid Services, Ishbel Dickens from Columbia Legal Services and Karen Valenzuela, a Commissioner in Thurston County, WA. These local advocates shared practical tips on how to best influence local policies to support low-income homeowners, including information on the consolidated and comprehensive planning processes.

This webinar was designed for owners of manufactured homes, affordable housing advocates, legal services agencies and others working with low-income homeowners living in land-lease communities, state and local policymakers, and others interested in expanding affordable housing opportunities in their communities.
