WASHINGTON, DC – CFED, a nonprofit organization that works nationally to expand economic opportunity, announced today that it has appointed Andrea Levere as its new president.

Ms. Levere joined CFED in 1992 and most recently served as the organization’s executive vice president. During her tenure, Ms. Levere helped CFED become the recognized leader in product innovation and training in community development finance. She provided direction to a national initiative that captured the impact of community development lending and investing and served as a strategic consultant to development finance institutions throughout the United States. She recently led an internal reorganization of CFED and has overseen its programmatic work for the past five years. Ms. Levere also has demonstrated her leadership serving for the past three years as chair of the board of directors for the Ms. Foundation for Women.

“The CFED board unanimously and enthusiastically made this decision to appoint Ms. Levere as the organization’s new president,” says Robert Friedman, CFED founder and chairman of the board. “We could not find a better, more qualified successor.”

Ms. Levere brings 23 years of economic development experience to her new position. Prior to joining CFED, she spent nine years as a director at the National Development Council (NDC) and lead trainer for its Economic Development Finance Certification program. Among her many accomplishments at NDC, Ms. Levere designed and conducted a financial management program for over 1,000 entrepreneurs. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University and a Master of Public and Private Management from Yale University. She resides in Silver Spring, MD with her husband and two children.

Ms. Levere is replacing Brian Dabson, who led CFED for the past 12 years. Mr. Dabson has accepted appointments as director of the RUPRI Rural Poverty Research Center and research professor at the Truman School of Public Affairs, both at the University of Missouri–Columbia. Mr. Dabson also will serve as a Senior Fellow to CFED, lending his experience, expertise, and perspective to the organization’s future work.
