Manufactured Housing

Over 17 million people in the United States live in manufactured homes. Some of these are older, substandard homes that represent a problem for owners and communities. But many of these are newer, high-quality homes that can look, last and appreciate just like any other home, often at lower costs.

Here at CFED we believe that manufactured housing can and has opened the door to homeownership for millions of families, a door that otherwise would have remained shut. See below the practice, advocacy and partnerships we’ve put into place to help realize manufactured housing's asset-building potential.

What's New?

  • Check out the recently updated Promoting Resident Ownership of Communities Resource Guide and three Appendices that provide model laws and existing statutes in the Manufactured Housing Toolkit. This tool summarizes the case for resident ownership of manufactured home communities as a path to affordable housing preservation and asset building.
  • On November 1, CFED and USDA co-hosted the Bringing it All Home: USDA Programs for Manufactured Homes and Communities webinar, a dialogue about the importance of core USDA Rural Development grant and loan programs. Hear about the creative ways in which I’M HOME partners, working with their regional partners at USDA RD offices, have used these programs to promote manufactured housing as an affordable housing option in rural communities.
