About Manufactured Housing

Frontier Housing

Manufactured housing has been a frequently overlooked homeownership opportunity for low to moderate income families. Although manufactured housing sometimes conjures images of poorly designed, dilapidated and substandard “trailers,” the fact is today’s manufactured homes look, last and can appreciate just like traditional homes – often at lower costs.

However, to be good investments, manufactured homes:

  • must be well-built
  • must be installed on a proper foundation
  • must have fair and affordable financing
  • must offer ownership, or long-term control, of the land under the home
  • must promise a fair value when it’s time to sell

People who buy other kinds of homes get to take these conditions for granted. But, as simple as they sound, these conditions don’t always apply to manufactured homes. Families who buy manufactured homes today are all too frequently playing by a different set of rules than those who buy other kinds of homes.
